Brisbane The River City

The city of Brisbane on Queensland's east coast of Australia is a fantastic place to visit. The weather is consistantly beautiful, the river provides energy to an economically strong and growing population and the city has everything in it that residents or visitors could possibly want.

Having travelled the world i believe Brisbane offers the vibrancy to rival Seattle, the climate better than LA, the visual beauty of San Francisco, a culinary range that aspires to Paris and a positive economic future that is not far behind Silicon Valley.

Brisbane is an alfresco city, where every opportunity is taken to spend time outdoors. Walking, biking, dining, running, playing sport and barbecuing as close to the river as you can get.

Marriot Hotel Brisbane

Marriott Hotel Brisbane
515 Queen St, Brisbane 4000, Australia

Pros
Highly accessible location
Spacious rooms with comfortable beds and a great view of the river

Cons
Highly expensive
Inconsistent food quality

I just recently stayed at the Marriott for a business conference and from my experience, and having checked in and seen my room i felt it was one of the best hotels I have stayed at in my 3 years of travelling. However, it was also one of my most expensive stays.

I liked how it was located at the centre of everything in Brisbane. Though it may take a few minutes of walking, it is still very close to public transportation terminals, malls, parks and the riverside. My room even had a spectacular river view which I find very refreshing especially in the mornings.

The hotel has big sized and cozy rooms. The beds were also ultra comfortable. The room had all the basic amenities like a flat-screen TV with good reception, coffee and tea making facilities, wardrobe space with complimentary robes and fridge with overpriced mini-bar items. My room was also dead quiet so I had a very peaceful stay. What the room didn’t have was a pair of comfortable slippers and free in-room Internet access. Free WiFi is unfortunately only available in the hotel’s Executive Lounge.

In terms of food, I had the breakfast buffet on my first day and it was absolutely great. Everything was served fresh and tasted fantastic. I was expecting the same outstanding quality when it came to room service that night but to my amazement, everything was really poor. Servings were tiny and the food was overcooked. My pasta was soggy and was not even warm when it was served. I opted to eat out for dinner in my succeeding nights but breakfast remained consistently delicious until the day I checked out.

Overall I had a pleasant stay at the Marriott. Though the facilities and the service were not flawless, the hotel is still a good place to stay.
