Brisbane The River City

The city of Brisbane on Queensland's east coast of Australia is a fantastic place to visit. The weather is consistantly beautiful, the river provides energy to an economically strong and growing population and the city has everything in it that residents or visitors could possibly want.

Having travelled the world i believe Brisbane offers the vibrancy to rival Seattle, the climate better than LA, the visual beauty of San Francisco, a culinary range that aspires to Paris and a positive economic future that is not far behind Silicon Valley.

Brisbane is an alfresco city, where every opportunity is taken to spend time outdoors. Walking, biking, dining, running, playing sport and barbecuing as close to the river as you can get.

Novotel Brisbane-Creek St Review

Novotel Brisbane
200 Creek Street, Brisbane 4000, Australia

Pros
Good location, very near offices and malls
Free iMac Internet access in the lobby
Wall ports to connect your laptop or DVD to the TV set

Cons
Small room and bathroom
Expensive in-room Internet access
Poor temperature control system

My mum had a 3-day business conference in Brisbane when I was lucky to be on vacation so I decided to go with her and have a tour of the city while we were there. It was going to be my first time to have a proper look at the city and I was excited to see and explore the location. She booked us into the Novotel Brisbane together with the other participants from her company.

Since it was her company’s choice of hotel, I am assuming they got a good deal as my mother constantly complains the budgets are tight, so I expected poor location and an average quality of service and amenities from the hotel and its staff. So i was very pleasantly surprised when I saw that the hotel was located in the heart of the CBD in Spring Hill which was a 5 minute walk down the hill to the Queen street mall which is the epicentre of Brisbane, I was also amazed at the free iMac Internet access in the lobby. It was very unusual; but nevertheless, very innovative for a hotel to provide and frankly this should be replicated in all good hotels because it looks fantastic in the lobby and the convenience and value it offers is considerable.

When we got to the room, I found it quite cramped and a tad too small for my mom and I. The bathroom was also quite small. Everything was clean and tidy though so for short stays it was adequate. Due to the the iMacs downstairs I tried searching for a WiFi spot in the room. I was disappointed when I couldn’t find any. I seriously thought since the hotel was hi-tech it would already include free WiFi in-room access. It did however have wall ports to connect my portable DVD player to the TV. Oh, and another downside to the room is their faulty temperature control system. The air-conditioning was sometimes too cold and sometimes too warm; we couldn’t get it right despite several tries. Other than those minor glitches, I thought the Novotel Brisbane offered great convenience and style, the bar and restaurant downstairs whilst being fairly pricey offered a very nice terrace to dine on and despite being in the CBD there was very limited background noise within the hotel.
