Brisbane The River City

The city of Brisbane on Queensland's east coast of Australia is a fantastic place to visit. The weather is consistantly beautiful, the river provides energy to an economically strong and growing population and the city has everything in it that residents or visitors could possibly want.

Having travelled the world i believe Brisbane offers the vibrancy to rival Seattle, the climate better than LA, the visual beauty of San Francisco, a culinary range that aspires to Paris and a positive economic future that is not far behind Silicon Valley.

Brisbane is an alfresco city, where every opportunity is taken to spend time outdoors. Walking, biking, dining, running, playing sport and barbecuing as close to the river as you can get.

Treasury Hotel and Casino
Top of the Queen Street Mall, GPO Box 2488, Brisbane 4001, Australia

Pros
Very Convenient location
Spacious room and bathroom

Cons
Poor soundproofing of rooms
Defective swipe cards

I stayed at the Treasury Hotel and Casino last May 2011 for two nights during a business trip. The hotel is conveniently located in Queen Street close to my office as well as near the shopping and dining hot spots of the city. It used to be the old treasury building so it had a very Old World feel and ambience which wasn’t really the style i expected. On Checkin I was given my swipe card but by the time I was in front of my room, the card wouldn’t work. For this to happen once was forgivable, twice can still be tolerated but I had to change my swipe cards 6 times during my 2-night stay. Every time I went out, the card would not work when I got back. I was told to not let it touch my mobile phone but even so, the cards still turned out to be defective all the time.

Anyway, the room was spacious; same with the bathroom, which was newly renovated at that time. No free WiFi and similar with other hotels, I paid Internet costs of $25 per day which i find unreasonable. The beds were comfortable but despite that I wasn’t able to sleep soundly because of the noise coming from the nearby club which played loud music until the early hours of the morning. I do not believe that it should be the neighborhood’s problem. Knowing this situation, the hotel should have made their rooms more soundproof. This was one of my other major complaints. I probably wouldn’t stay at The Treasury again.
